Growers of all types of trees, perennials and other crops tend to use the same grow media they have always used with their traditional plastic nursery pots. Most use some type of basic soil mixture and we have even seen growers use less common media such as Growstones or Clay pebbles. Because of the way coco coir expands after the initial watering, we see many growers adding this to their mix. Because of the design of the RediRoot^® #5S Plastic Root Pruning Pot, you will lose a little bit of soil/grow media during the first few waterings, but then the mixture will regulate and accommodate the watering without much loss. The only time you may need to adjust your grow medium is if you are using a fine mix – in which case you might benefit from adding some bulk to the mixture.

Do grow temperatures have to be adjusted when using the RediRoot® #5S Plastic Root Pruning Pot?  Probably not.  Whatever system you have in place to monitor and manage the temperature in your grow space will work just fine.

How do I determine what size RediRoot Aeration Pot to use?  Most growers find that many plants and trees can safely be planted in one container size smaller than they use in a solid wall container while still achieving the same amount of growth.  The RediRoot® #5S Plastic Root Pruning Pot causes the plant to grow extremely efficient, vigorous root systems that bring nutrients to the plant instead of being a tangled mess of circling roots. 

Does the watering schedule change?  Maybe.  The plant is going to have more dense, fibrous roots than if grown in traditional plastic nursery pots.  This, along with the open slat design of the air pot may require you water more frequently than usual. 

Will the RediRoot® #5S Plastic Root Pruning Pot affect nutrient schedules?  No.  Continue as you normally would.  For a 1-2-punch unleashing optimal plant growth and production, we do suggest you add our organic, microbial root inoculant into your schedule.  This, combined with the healthy roots from the aeration container will increase the quality and volume of your plants.

Is special grow media required?  No.  But some growers add coco coir into their soil mixture as it expands after the initial watering to keep water from escaping through the open slats of the air pruning pot.
